Brothers Ben and Tom Birchall are celebrating after being crowned FIM World Sidecar champions for 2009.

The Mansfield pair secured their world title with a second-place finish in Sunday's final round of the season in Le Mans, France on Sunday.

Passenger Tom, 22, had double reason to celebrate as he became the youngest ever passenger to win the title.

Ben, 32, told BBC Sport: "It's nice to get it and bring it back to Mansfield. It's been a real team effort."

Title rivals Pekka Paivarinta and Adolf Hanni took the honours on Sunday with victory in the seventh and final race of the season.

But, having already secured a podium placing in every round leading up to Sunday's race, the Birchalls were already 14 points clear of the Finns, and they knew second place would guarantee glory.

You will be able to see an interview with the Birchalls on BBC East Midlands Today on Wednesday and the interview will also be able to see the interview on Wednesday at http://www.bbc.co.uk/nottingham/sport
