Crump claims British GP in style

Fredrik Lindgren, Jason Crump (winner) and Hans Andersen celebrate finishing in the top three
Crump (c) is chasing his third world championship

World championship leader Jason Crump made history by winning the British Speedway Grand Prix in Cardiff - the 21st GP win of his career.

The Australian won seven races and beat Wolves' Fredrik Lindgren, Poole's Hans Andersen and Greg Hancock in the final.

His 24 points put Coventry riders Chris Harris (nine), Scott Nicholls (seven) and Edward Kennett (four) in the shade.

Peterborough's Kenneth Bjerre finished with seven points and Swindon's Leigh Adams was second-from-last with three.

Bristol-born Crump now leads the championship by 31 points after his third Millennium Stadium GP victory, which helped him beat Tony Rickardsson's record 20 grand prix wins.

The 33-year-old described the meeting as "unreal", but despite his increased advantage in the championship he remains cautious on his overall chances of taking the title after five of the 11 rounds.

"What else can I ask for? It was a night of dreams," he told BBC Wiltshire.

"At this level of racing it's one race at a time and that's what I was doing today. Just concentrating on the next one, getting it done, and then concentrating on the next one. It worked well."
