Australian Formula One driver Mark Webber has said Kent racer Mike Conway will get his chance to compete at the top level if he keeps working hard.

The Sevenoaks driver, 24, has spent the last two years in GP2 and got his maiden win at Monaco in May.

Webber, 32, told BBC Radio Kent: "I've met Mike a few times and he's a very talented youngster.

"He knows he's got to keep his head down and make every post a winner. The easiest thing to do is give up."

The Red Bull Racing driver, who finished 11th in the 2008 Drivers' Championship, added: "I know he's got a good group of people around him.

"I'm sure if he can get some testing in Formula One he'll do a good job for himself."

Conway raced against Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton in karts and was the British Formula Renault champion in 2004, a year after Hamilton had taken the crown.

He drives for the Trident team in GP2 and has been part of Honda's F1 racing young driver programme since 2007.
