Massa clips Hamilton and sends him across the corner, but the British driver retains his second place despite further pressure

David Coulthard crashes out at Curva Grande after his front wing splits bringing the safety car out for the first time

Further down the field, Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button are enjoying a titanic tussle for seventh spot

But there is disappointment for the Ferrari supporters when Massa retires after just nine laps with suspension problems

However, Kimi Raikkonen's one-stop strategy allows him to take second when Hamilton pits for a second time

But the British driver pulls off a remarkable overtaking move at the end of the start-finish straight to regain second

Fernando Alonso is untroubled though as he cruises to his fourth victory of the season from team-mate Hamilton

And Hamilton is the first to congratulate Alonso despite the Spaniard cutting his world championship lead to three points

Raikkonen takes third to keep his feint title hopes alive, although Massa's appear to be over after another failure
