Juan Pablo Montoya crashed out of the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway as Jimmie Johnson wrapped up the Nascar championship on Sunday.
Montoya escaped unharmed after slamming into the wall 16 laps from the end and was given a finish of 34th place.
Greg Biffle won the race and Johnson came in ninth to take the title by 51 points from Matt Kenseth.
"It's incredible," said Johnson. "These guys are incredible. This team has come into its own in the last year."
Montoya's Chip Ganassi-owned car went into a spin following a clash with a car driven by veteran Ryan Newman.
"The 12 car (Newman) tapped me in the back, I'm not sure," said the Colombian. "We proved we could run all day, it's gonna be hard.
"What I said to the guys when I signed with Chip was that it won't be easy. I think I've been getting better race by race."
