Dale Earnhardt Jr posted his first win of the Nascar season with victory in the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway in Illinois.
Earnhardt's two-tyre strategy proved decisive as he held off Matt Kenseth, who changed four tyres and fell behind on his final pit stop.
"I was worried about going winless this year," said a relieved Earnhardt. "Now, let's go and win some more."
Series points leader Jimmie Johnson came from a lap down to finish third.
