Gordon grabs first Phoenix pole

Gordon had never been on pole at Phoenix before
Four-time Nascar champion Jeff Gordon will start from pole position in Saturday's Subway Fresh 500 at the Phoenix International Raceway.

Gordon's Chevrolet set a speed of 133.675mph to beat the Fords of Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle.

Ryan Newman, who was going for his fourth consecutive pole at the Arizona track and his fourth of 2005, skidded on his lap and lines up seventh.

Nextel Cup points leader Jimmie Johnson lines his Chevy up 12th.
