Gary Paffett became the first British winner of the German DTM Championship after finishing third at Hockenheim.
Paffett is a former test driver for the McLaren F1 team
Bernd Schneider won the race and Leicester's Jamie Green claimed second ahead of Paffett as Mercedes secured the top three places in the race.
Paffett was 15 points clear of Mattias Ekstrom, who needed to win to stand any chance of snatching the title but never threatened after qualifying in 15th.
A huge crowd of almost 100,000 watched the race at the legendary circuit.
Paffett survived several scares during the race. Ex-Formula One star Heinz-Harald Frentzen almost knocked him off on lap one and Tom Kristensen slammed into him late in the race.
Frentzen was rushed to hospital after being cut free after a late crash.
