Kyle Busch became the youngest Nascar winner when he clinched the Sony HD 500 at California Speedway on Sunday.
The 20-year-old beat Greg Biffle followed by Brian Vickers, Carl Edwards, series points leader Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne.
The previous youngest winner was Donald Thomas, who was four days older than Busch when he won in Atlanta in 1952.
One race is left - in Richmond - before the start of the 10-man 10-race championship finale, dubbed The Chase.
Four-time champion Jeff Gordon slipped out of thetop 10 in the Nextel Cup standings after finishing 21st.
Jamie McMurray replaced Gordon in 10th place.
The next race is at Richmond, Virginia, next Saturday.
