Herbert hopes dashed in US
Johnny Herbert
Herbert was second behind former team-mate JJ Lehto
Johnny Herbert lost his Petit Le Mans crown when he finished second behind JJ Lehto over 1,000 miles in Atlanta.

Herbert and Lehto took the crown for Champion Audi in 2003 but he was replaced by Marco Werner for this year's American Le Mans Series.

The Englishman was partnered by Pierre Kaffer in a second Champion Audi but the pair suffered a series of setbacks.

"Having finished second in the Le Mans 24 Hours I was looking to win but lady luck didn't smile on me," said Herbert.

"We incurred a stop-go penalty when Pierre touched a back-marker which dropped us a lap behind the leading Audi.

"With two hours remaining, I slid off on oil and then had to make a couple of unscheduled pit-stops with a fuel leak. "
