Vatanen on comeback trail
The Paris-Dakar race has breathtaking routes
The Paris-Dakar is one of motorsport's toughest events
Former world rally champion Ari Vatanen is to enter the 2003 Dakar endurance race.

The 50-year-old Finn will be seeking his fifth win in the gruelling event which begins in northern Europe and crosses the Sahara Desert.

Vatanen, who is now a member of the European Parliament, will drive a Nissan in the race which starts on New Year's Day.

He was world rally champion in 1981 and won the Paris-Dakar in 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991.
