Lee thanks new mentor
Ronnie O'Sullivan and ex-coach and mentor Derek Hill
O'Sullivan split with coach Derek Hill in the summer
Stephen Lee paid tribute to Ronnie O'Sullivan's former coach and mentor after winning the LG Cup at Preston.

Lee thanked Derek Hill, who parted company with O'Sullivan in the summer and has since been working with the world number eight, after his 9-4 victory over Peter Ebdon.

"Del his been helping me out mentally," Lee said.

"He helps me feel at home and after what he did with Ronnie, I knew he could do something for me.

"This is the first tournament I've had him in my corner and the change has worked.

Lee was pleased with his safety play

"I used to have Frank Adamson with me but he's more a coach and although he's been good for me, I needed to try something different."

Ironically, Adamson is now working with O'Sullivan.

Lee's second world ranking tournament win was worth £82,500.

His first came at the same venue three years, when the event was known as the Grand Prix.

Lee, who beat both John Higgins and Stephen Hendry on his way to the final, was pleased with his form.

"My safety play was good all week," he said.

"I beat John and Stephen playing good match snooker and I tried the same against Peter.

"He is a tough player and never beaten until the last frame is won but I fancied it at 8-4.

"I didn't think I would lose from there again," said Lee, who has had a reputation in the past of throwing away winning positions.
