Lee edges ahead of Ebdon
Peter Ebdon needs to find an extra gear
LG Cup final (best of 17)
S Lee 5-3 P Ebdon Stephen Lee is just four frames away from beating Peter Ebdon in the final of the LG Cup. The first session was a very tense battle from start to finish, with neither player finding the clinical form they had shown in earlier rounds. But it was Lee who took advantage of some sloppy play from Ebdon to go 3-0 up. After a re-rack, the 2000 British Open champion broke the cluster of reds. But that proved to be costly as Lee made 28 and 31 to take the opener. Ebdon looked to level the scores in the following frame, having made a 54 break, but back came Lee with a 76. Lee made his opponent pay again in the third before the fightback. The risk-taking Ebdon successfully played a long red on the way to picking up his first frame. He then produced a 52 in the fifth followed by a 60 in the sixth to take the scores to 3-3. But it was Lee who had the last laugh when he dominated the table in the final two frames, and put in a break of 74.
