Williams hobbles through
Williams hurt his ankle falling down steps at his home

Mark Williams limped to a 5-4 victory in his grudge match against Quinten Hann while wearing slippers.

Williams moved into the third round of the LG Cup despite being in constant pain after tearing ankle ligaments last week.

Coincidentally, Hann played barefoot in last season's UK Championship after picking up a similar injury during a parachute jump.

"It wasn't until Monday I decided to play because I've been in so much pain," said Williams.

"It was a nightmare out there and my legs are really aching now.

"I had to play so slowly that I was like Terry Griffiths walking round the table and I was even boring myself."

There is little love lost between Hann and Williams.

"I read that Quinten said I had only ever spoken 10 words to him in my life. I don't remember speaking 10 words," said Williams.

Invaluable

"He likes to beat me and I love it when I win against him. But all I wanted to do was get this match over."

Williams' best was 82 in frame six, but after Hann closed from 4-2 down to level at 4-4, the Welshman knocked in an invaluable 46 to take back the initiative.

In the next round Williams will face Dave Harold, who overcame a badly-worn cue tip to defeat Jason Ferguson 5-2.

"I'll have to step up a gear and miss one or two less if I want to prevail," said world number 15 Harold.
