Day one

Matthew Stevens
Stevens eased past Hamilton
Wales' Matthew Stevens is the first player through to the quarter-finals after defeating Anthony Hamilton of England 13-5. Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Ken Doherty look best placed to join him, but all have plenty of work to do before they can relax.

    Day two

    In a major tournament upset, Ireland's Joe Swail defeated defending champion Mark Williams. Swail was 6-10 down overnight but refused to let Williams intimidate him producing the highest break of the tournament in the 20th frame. A thrilling final frame saw Swail win by 13-12.

    Paul Hunter looks on as Hendry prepares to pot
    Hendry returned to form against Hunter

    Scotland's John Higgins is the best placed player to take a slot in the quarter finals after building an 11-5 lead over fellow Scot Chris Small. The day's outstanding performance however, came from Stephen Hendry who showed his class against Paul Hunter establishing a 6-2 lead.

    The quarter-final line-up is now complete as John Higgins, Stephen Hendry and Patrick Wallace all book their places with comfortable victories. They are joined by Peter Ebdon who broke down in tears after an epic match again Stephen Lee.
