Allen Johson
Allen Johnson crosses the line ahead of Anier Garcia
Allen Johnson powered his way to a third world title beating Olympic champion Anier Garcia in the men's 110m hurdles final.

Johnson's winning time of 13.04 was the fastest in the world this year despite the the former Olympic champion hitting seven hurdles along the way.

The American reached the first hurdle in the lead and was never passed, holding on to beat Garcia by three hundredths of a second.

Dudley Dorival of Haiti took the bronze in the time of 13.25secs.

Johnson had previously been world champion in 1995 and 1997 with Olympic gold coming in Atlanta in 1996.

"He was pushing me near the end causing me to hit some hurdles. He almost got me," Jonson said of Garcia.

"It feels very good. Coming in here I wasn't sure I could perform the way I did."

For Garcia it was a second silver medal at the World Championships.

He was second behind Colin Jackson in Seville two years ago.
