Italy's Tagliacarne is foiled by French keeper Lagache
France 2-0 Italy
Italy were dumped out of the women's Euro 2001 Championships after slipping to a shock 2-0 defeat at the hands of France. Marinette Pichon scored in the 37th minute for the French, who had lost their two previous games in Group B. Francois Jezequel then converted a 74th-minute penalty to seal victory. Italy, runner-up at the last European Championships, finished level on points with second-placed Norway but missed out on a place in the semi-finals on goal difference.
