Monty disqualified for card error
Colin Montgomerie
The seventh hole proved costly for Montgomerie
Colin Montgomrie's miserable performances in this season's Majors were rounded off when he was disqualified from the USPGA Championships in Atlanta.

The Scottish golfer paid the penalty for making a mistake on his scorecard during the final day's play in Atlanta.

Montgomerie, who was already well out of contention, signed for a par-three on the seventh hole when he had in fact taken four shots.

Andrew Oldcorn
Oldcorn shot a 67 but still needs Ryder Cup points

Playing partner Andrew Oldcorn was marking the card which Montgomerie signed as a 71 when he had actually shot a 72.

The mistake was revealed by the computerised scoring system.

Montgomerie had already left the course by the time the error had been discovered.

Oldcorn had his own disappointment despite shooting a 67 for a 281.

It was still not enough to take him from 15th on the Ryder Cup table into the top 12, and a subsequent invitation to this week's world championship event in Akron.

He will therefore be playing in the Scottish PGA championship at Gleneagles starting on Thursday.

"With the top 12 not at Gleneagles the field will be weaker there and I've got to try," Oldcorn said.

"I am a wee bit burnt out and if it wasn't for the Ryder Cup I probably wouldn't play, even though I can stay at home."

Ian Woosnam
Woosnam finished with a final-round 68

Phillip Price will be in Akron after a 70 gave him a three-over-par total of 283.

As a result he hung on to the 10th and last automatic place in the Ryder Cup table.

Nick Faldo and Ian Woosnam, meanwhile, closed on two-over with rounds of 70 and 68 respectively.

Lee Westwood eagled the long 12th for the second day running but followed this with two bogies and a double-bogey for a 74 and a 281.

The tournament's top European was Jesper Parnevik, whose 68 gave him a four-under-par 276.
