Hole-in-one for Faldo
Faldo aced the fourth hole
Nick Faldo hit the 10th hole-in-one of his career at the start of the USPGA championship third round on Saturday.
But it was a lone high point on a sub-standard day for the veteran Englishman, who saw his outside challenge for the title disintegrate with a one-over par 71. He is now two-over for the championship going into Sunday's final round. Faldo aced the par 204-yard three fourth at the Atlanta Athletic Club with a four iron to jump from two over par to level par. A lake guards the left side of the green and for a while it looked as though it might catch it. But the ball landed about seven feet right of the water, bounced forward and then almost on its last roll dropped in to the cheers of the crowd. "That was a peach," Faldo said about his first hole-in-one in a Major championship. "I hit a really perfect shot. A four iron with a wee draw." The 44-year-old, a triple winner of both the US Masters and The Open, also had a birdie at the par-five 12th. But his round was spoiled by two bogeys and a double-bogey at the par-three 15th. "I'm still really struggling with the swing," said Faldo, who has not won a tour event in four years. "When you hit the odd shot, you panic a little bit."
