Robbins and Jones share lead
Robbins produced an eagle on the 14th
Kelly Robbins and Rosie Jones remained unflustered by windy conditions as they tied for the lead in the second round of the Canadian Open.
The American pair both hit 69 on Friday to stay level on 10-under 132, three shots ahead of Korean Se Ri Pak and Maria Hjorth of Sweden. It was a disappointing day for first round co-leader Pak, who fell behind with an even-par 72 on the Ontario course. Home favourite Lorie Lane stayed in contention with her second straight 69 to go equal fifth with Cristie Kerr at six-under 138.
Robbins grabbed a share of the lead with an impressive eagle on the 185-yard 14th, and now hopes to end a 32-month drought by winning the tournament. "I think I have been blessed with the talent that has shown me success," said Robbins, who has won at least one event each year between 1993-99. "And for whatever reason, I was struggling with it, which is fine. "But I also knew it was going to change, and I don't know if it's changed or not, but I do know in the last few months it's been more familiar to me and how I can play the game." Jones will be feeling more confident, having already won twice this year and being eighth on the money list with $622,531. "I feel absolutely great with a 69," Jones said. "The course is playing really tough, lot of side winds, downwind. "It's really hard to figure out the direction of the wind sometimes because it was kind of right in your face at times, and then all of a sudden quartering with you."
