Pak stays hot in Canada
Pak is keeping her winning form going in Canada
Se Ri Pak, Rosie Jones and Kelly Robbins have shot seven-under-par 65s to share the first-round lead in the Canadian Women's Open.
Pak, the 23-year-old South Korean who won the Women's British Open two weeks ago, birdied all four par-fives as afternoon drizzle softened the greens in Markham, Ontario. "I drove great," she said afterwards: "I really had a lot of opportunities to make birdies. It's hard if you miss the fairways. This golf course can be really tough." The 41-year-old Jones, seeking her third victory of the year, matched Pak with a bogey-free round on Angus Glen's South Course. And, Robbins, a nine-time winner in 10 seasons on the LPGA Tour, had eight birdies and a bogey. "I actually didn't hit it that well. I know that sounds strange. I just didn't make any mistakes." Hole-in-one Tour favourites Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb, meanwhile, could manage only rounds of 71. Dawn Coe-Jones topped the 16 Canadians in the field with a 68 to tie Rachel Teske and Catriona Matthew, who also finished at four under par. Moment of the day, however, belonged to Charlotta Sorenstam, who aced the 145-yard 12th with a seven-iron, her third hole-in-one on tour. |
