Brotherton's Tour moment: Stage 17
Serge Baguet in action during the Tour de France
A rejuvenated Baguet is relishing cycling again
Throughout the Tour de France, Simon Brotherton is providing daily race reports for BBC Five Live and stage highlights for Sport Online.

Serge Baguet from Belgium won the stage into Montlucon and provides today's moment by showing if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

The 31-year-old Lotto rider is in his second career as a professional cyclist, and enjoying life far more second time around.

Having been a successful amateur, Baguet turned pro in 1991, but found life hard among the big boys and couldn't get the results he was looking for.

Disillusioned, he decided to retire at the end of 1996 at the age of 27.

Suddenly he was a regular guy, drank beer and put on 10kg in weight.

On the tiles?

He paid the bills by working as a roof tiler for three years and only rode his bike at the weekends for pleasure.

But there was some unfinished business from his life as a bike rider and Baguet decided to give it one more go.

Now, in his second season back in the peloton, he's achieving better results than ever.

Third place in the Amstel Gold race in the spring, a world ranking just inside the world top 100, and now a stage win in this year's Tour de France.

He took a chance, made the sacrifices and is now reaping the rewards.

(Will he celebrate with a night on the tiles I wonder?)
