Olivier Peslier
French jockey Olivier Peslier savours that Derby winning feeling
Joyous Peslier after winning the 1998 Derby
Date of birth: 12/1/71
Main trainer: Andre Fabre
Total Royal Ascot wins: 7
Royal Ascot wins 2000: 1

The son of a stonemason, Olivier Peslier has carved out a reputation as one of Europe's leading jockeys.

And at 30-years-old, the Frenchman is also one of the youngest top Flat riders in a profession where experience can be important.

Peslier sealed his place in racing history when winning three consecutive Prix de l'Arc de Triomphes on Helissio (1996), Peintre Celebre (1997) and Sagamix (1998).

Add to this a stirring Epsom Derby triumph on Luca Cumani's High-Rise in 1997, and you will know why this jockey is in great demand.

Peslier picked up his first Classic two years earlier with a superb ride on Winged Love in the Irish Derby at the Curragh.

He has won the French champion jockey title four times, including last year, although his raids overseas were less fruitful in the year 2000.

Peslier and Italian-born jockey Frankie Dettori enjoy a friendly rivalry. Dettori is four weeks his senior.
