    Fence 1

Spanish Main and the unfancied Art Prince were both fallers at the first.

    Fence 2

Addington Boy, who had been fourth and fifth in the previous two years, didn't make it past the second on this occasion. Tresor de Mai and Hanakham were two others who did not make it over the second.

    Fence 3

There had been plenty of support for Hollybank Buck before the race, but despite his liking for the mud he didn't make it over the third.

Both Kaki Crazy and Paddy's Return also exited at this early stage.

    Fence 4

Robert Widger was aboard the well-backed Inis Cara, but the 10/1 co-favourite was a casualty at the fourth, as was Earthmover who fell at the same fence last year.

    Fence 5

Seamus Durack, riding The Last Fling was the only faller at the fifth.

    Fence 6 (Becher's Brook)

Becher's claimed three more runners on the first lap.

Strong Tel and Exit Swinger were both fallers while Northern Stralight unseated Tom Scudamore.

    Fence 7

Merry People was a late addition to the line-up, but his challenge came to an end at the Foinavon fence.

    Fence 8 (Canal Turn)

It was the Canal turn that caused the most chaos.

Djeddah, Mely Moss, Dark Stranger, You're Agoodun, Village King, and Feels Like Gold were all brought down.

General Wolfe was a faller, while the highly-fancied Moral Support refused at the eighth.

    Fence 9

Mister One unseated jockey Mark Bradburne at Valentine's Brook.

    Fence 11

Tom Doyle was a late replacement for Mick Fitzgerald on Esprit de Cotte but he was to fall at the 11th.

    Fence 13

Jimmy McCarthy and Noble Lord fell at the penultimate fence on the first lap.

    Fence 15 (The Chair)

Edmond had given Richard Johnson an excellent ride until they came to the biggest fence on the course.

Amberleigh House, Moondigua and Supreme Charm were other casualties at the Chair.

    Fence 16

No Retreat and Listen Timmy both pulled up at the 16th to leave just eight horses remaining and 14 fences left to jump.

    Fence 19

Lance Armstrong and Brave Highlander both refused at the 19th.

    Fence 20

The top weight Beau unseated Carl Llewellyn, while Unsinkable Boxer with Dean Gallagher on board refused at this fence.

It left just four finishers to complete the gruelling Aintree course.
