Paul Grayson

DOB: 31.3.71
County: Essex

One-day international debut: v South Africa, Nairobi 2000

Right hand batsman, slow left arm bowler

Grayson was a surprise choice as Ashley Giles' replacement when the Warwickshire spinner suffered Achilles tendon problems prior to the ICC Knockout event in Kenya last year.

Had a day to forget in his one and only appearance against South Africa when he was dismissed by Jacques Kallis for nought and bowled only five overs as England went down by eight wickets.

Retains the faith of captain and county teammate Nasser Hussain and has enjoyed an excellent summer with the bat, scoring five hundreds in the County Championship.

Grayson's figures with the ball make less impressive reading, despite five for 20 against Yorkshire in the final match of the season.

It would be asking a lot of the Yorkshireman to do more than act as an occasional bowler against Zimbabwe.
