Masters champ misses cut
Vijay Singh: Misses the cut at the USPGA
US Masters champion Vijay Singh was one of big names to miss the cut at the USPGA championship at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.
A poor first day score accounted for Singh's departure when he finished on 77. He tried to make up the lost ground with a respectable 71 on the second day, but it was not enough to make the final cut. Other notable absences include Jack Nicklaus, playing in his last USPGA championship, and Greg Norman, who scored 75 and 77, and Fred Couples. The British fared no better with Ian Woosnam, Gary Orr and Sam Torrance all failing to make the last two days. Another Englishman Ed Fryatt, playing his first year on the American tour, ruined an excellent first day score of 69 by registering a 79 on the second. Nick Faldo made a remarkable recovery to narrowly miss the cut. Faldo was nine over at one stage, looking a certainty to miss the cut. But seven birdies in his round of 68 secured his presence in the last two days.
