Sugiyama and Halard-Decugis on their way to victory
Ai Sugiyama of Japan and France's Julie Halard-Decugis captured the US Open women's doubles title beating Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Russian Elena Likhovtseva in the final.

Sugiyama and Halard-Decugis on her 30th birthday beat 10th-seeded Black and Likhovtseva 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 in one hour and 19 minutes.

"We deserved it, it's really great," Sugiyama said. "I was under pressure because I knew it was Julie's birthday and I wanted to do well."

The pair picked up 340,000 dollars for their victory and will move to number one in the world when the rankings come out on Monday.
