Higgins overcomes Henry
John Higgins
Higgins admits he might easily have lost to Drew Henry
John Higgins saw off fellow Scot Drew Henry to reach the final four of the Liverpool Victoria UK Championship in Bournemouth.

The former world champion and world number one is now just two wins away from his first ranking tournament title for 10 months.

But the first player to reach the semi-finals admitted he was flattered by the 9-6 victory scoreline, saying: "It could easily have been 9-5 or 9-6 the other way."

Higgins pinched one frame on a re-spotted black, two other frames on the black and a fourth frame on the pink. "I didn't play that great but a win is a win," he said.

Higgins who recovered from 62-0 down to steal frame five with a break of 63, and his triumph also included breaks of 75, 65, 70, 58, 52 and 67.

Higgins added: "I heard a couple of the commentators suggesting the clearances had been quite easy but they were anything but."

Sarcastic

Henry also had a saracastic dig at player-turned-commentator Jim Meadowcroft. "He said he'd never seen John play so badly in his life which makes (me) feel a lot better.

I should have been 5-3 up after the first session but I was 5-2 down.
Drew Henry
"People like him always seem to know best. But I guess that's why he is sitting in the box and not playing."

Henry was also upset that the partition dividing the two tables had been raised just as he faced the re-spotted black finish to frame seven.

"I couldn't believe it when they took it up. They could have waited a couple of moments. That was one of the frames that got away. I should have been 5-3 up after the first session but I was 5-2 down."

Henry also missed a vital green in frame 12 when clearing up for 6-6 and again Higgins accepted his reprieve.

Comebacks

World number nine Fergal O'Brien will need another of his famous comebacks if he is to reach the semi-finals.

The Dubliner trails defending champion Mark Williams 6-2 after the first session and requires seven of Thursday's nine frames to go through.

However, after coming from 7-2 down to deny world finalist Matthew Stevens 9-8 in the previous round, he believes anything is possible.

Williams crucially won frame seven on a re-spotted black after he had initially required two snookers.
