How to get to St Andrews

The best routes to take if you want to catch the action live at this year's Open golf championship.

By road:

From the north via the Tay Road Bridge: Take A92 and continue towards Forgan roundabout. Turn left onto A914/A919 to Guardbridge via Leuchars. Take A91 to St Andrews.

From the north via Perth: Exit M90 at junction 9. Take A912 then A913 through Newburgh. Turn left onto A92 and continue to Forgan roundabout. Turn right onto A914/A919 to Guardbridge via Leuchars. Take A91 to St Andrews.

From the west via the Kincardine Bridge: Take A977 to junction 6 of M90. Continue north to junction eight. Take A91 to St Andrews.

From south and Edinburgh airport: Take M90 over the Forth Road Bridge. Leave motorway at junction 2a and take A92 to Glenrothes. Take A911/A915 through Leven and continue to St Andrews. The Forth Road Bridge is a toll bridge (cars 80p, coaches £1.40).

Car parking: Follow colour-coded 'Open Golf' signs to all car parks.

Park and ride: A park and ride facility will operate from Guardbridge. Parking is at a reduced rate and the bus service to St Andrews is free.

By rail:

The nearest railway station to St Andrews is five miles away at Leuchars Junction.

Taxis and buses run regularly to St Andrews.

London to Aberdeen express services stop at Leuchars Junction as do the frequent commuter trains from Edinburgh and Dundee.

Trains from Edinburgh at peak times will run every 15 minutes. The bus link from Leuchars to St Andrews will operate from 06.30 to 21.00.

By air:

There are flights from Europe and the rest of the United Kingdom directly into Edinburgh airport.

Most transatlantic flights arrive at Glasgow airport, which is less than two hours from St Andrews by road.

There is now a service from London City airport into Dundee, which is just a 20-minute drive from the Old Course.
