Make your choice

Vote here for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The award, one of the best-known in sport, goes every year to the British competitor who BBC viewers feel has make the greatest contribution to the country's sport.

The winner will be announced on BBC One television - and here on BBC Sport Online - on Sunday 10 December.

HAVE YOUR SAY

It's been an outstanding year for British competition, dominated by the Olympic Games in Sydney.

Who will forget the British gold medal-winning performances that fortnight?

  British Olympic stars
Steve Redgrave
Matthew Pinsent
Denise Lewis
Jonathan Edwards
Audley Harrison
Jason Queally

Later in the year the Paralympics also produced some stunning performances.

The British team there finished in their best-ever position in the medals table, with Tanni Grey-Thompson claiming four golds.

In football, Manchester United and Rangers continued their domestic domination but there was little to shout about on the international stage.

In contrast cricket saw Nasser Hussain's new-look England team begin to recapture form that has evaded them for too long, and Darren Gough was one of the stars of the side.

Golf saw a new name at the top of the money list in Europe - Lee Westwood.

And in boxing the 1999 winner of the BBC award Lennox Lewis continued his world championship reign.
