England's Man of the Series Darren Gough hailed a "great team effort" following their 158-run win over the West Indies.

The Yorkshire fast bowler was nominated by West Indies coach Roger Harper after taking 23 wickets in the series.

"It was a big day for everybody involved. We were obviously favourites but we didn't expect the support that has been here today, it's been absolutely magnificent.

"We've enjoyed every minute of it and we've won a series against the West Indies, it's absolutely brilliant," he said.

"The bowlers have been great throughout, Andy Caddick has been magnificent as he was in the winter without him this wouldn't be possible.

"Dominic Cork and Craig White, the other two who have come in, have done great jobs. At last we've got a bowling attack that can match anything in the world."

Gough also praised the England batting line-up for putting enough runs on the board to enable them to win three Test matches, even though conditions on the whole have favoured the bowlers.

"It's been bowler-friendly all season, but all the batters have been brilliant. Each one has had his moment and it's been a real team effort," he added.

Nasser Hussain voiced his delight at the improvement in his team after becoming the first England captain to hold the Wisden Trophy aloft since Ray Illingworth in 1969.

"I thought it was a great Test match. I'm just very proud of my team, to be honest.

"The way they performed, the way the crowd have come here for five days, the weather, absolutely everything, the pitch, Ambrose and Walsh on their side, the fight they showed, the pride we've shown all summer in our cricket; I don't think it could have ended any better today and I'm just pleased the better side won."

He added: "It's only recently that I realised we hadn't beaten them for so long. Once I heard that stat, I haven't slept much. All we've thought about in that dressing room is this trophy.

"I can't name them all, the Athertons, the Goughs, White, Stewart; all of them have been absolutely brilliant."
