Indian Board set the example
Mohammad Azharuddin
Mohammad Azharuddin - one of the men suspended
BBC Cricket correspondant Jonathan Agnew says that the Indian Cricket Board should be applauded for suspending five of their cricketers so promptly and that other authorities should react in a similar fashion.

"I think the Indian board have behaved fantastically. This is exactly what the ICC have been looking for - they've taken a lead.

The indian players have been indicted for match-fixing. People are looking for the Sri Lankan board to do the same thing. I know that Ranatunga has retired but D'Silva is still knocking around.

There is a difference between match-fixing and the other allegations that have been made. I think it is up to each board to deal with each player for the time being.

Tip of the iceberg

I do believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg. I agree entirely with Malcolm Grey. Its impossible to believe that administrators are not involved - umpires too.

The list contains a leading player from every test playing nation apart from Zimbabwe. Therefore there has been a clear attempt to corrupt the whole of international cricket. It's a racket I'm sure that has been going for a decade.

There is clearly a link between these players and county cricket. There must be a chance that any form of cricket in the public eye has been affected by this.

It will rumble on, but I think the worst of it is over. I think we know what to expect now. The biggest shock of all has, I hope, been and gone and now it's a case of just having to clean it all up."
