Great Britain women's handball team went down to a 27-16 defeat by Iceland in their 2010 European Championship qualifier at Crystal Palace.
Right winger Hanna Stefansdottir was the star for the visitors, netting 13 times in an impressive display.
Kelsi Fairbrother top-scored for Great Britain with five goals, including three penalties.
The victory moved Iceland into second in Group E ahead of Saturday's return match with Great Britain in Reykjavik.
Iceland made the brighter start when Anna Ursula Gudmundsdottir opened the scoring in the first minute, followed by three further goals.
But Britain responded through Lynn McCafferty's eighth-minute strike, swiftly followed by goals from Kathryn Fudge and Holly Lam-Moores to reduce the deficit to just one goal.
Iceland, however, quickly assumed control through Stefansdottir as they took a 9-6 lead at the first time out.
The visitors then notched six unanswered goals in an eight-minute period and continued to dominate, despite a number of fine saves from Britain keeper Sarah Hargreaves.
