Hole 17 at Augusta
440 yards, par four

By Peter Alliss
BBC TV golf commentator

This is a fairly straightforward-looking hole but it is another where they have added extra yardage - 25 yards in 1999 and a further 15 for 2006.

We have Eisenhower's Tree in the middle of the fairway, named after Ike because the old boy always drove into it.

It is a wonder he did not get a couple of his troops to go out in the night and saw it down, but he never did.

Once you get over that, you have got one bunker right in front of the green, just a few yards short, which catches many second shots.

It is quite awkward to get at the flag, particularly when it is only seven or eight paces on the green.

The green slopes left-to-right with a drop-off at the back right - once again finding the right distance is so important.

I will always remember the putt here when Jack Nicklaus won in 1986, the year Seve should have won really.

Nicklaus holed that putt down the green. He came at nine o'clock into the hole and he must have been all of 12 or 15 yards away.

It went in and he went on to complete a remarkable victory at the age of 46.
