Hole 5 at Augusta
455 yards, par four

By Peter Alliss
BBC TV golf commentator

The fifth is one of the most underrated holes on the course and seldom seen in any depth. I don't think I've ever seen them drive off from it on television.

It is also the only hole modified for this year's Masters. The tee has been moved back and the fairway bunkers have been extended towards the green. To carry the two bunkers is now 315 yards.

The right-to-left dogleg has been moved further right to increase the angle. This move, along with the new tee position, has added 20 yards to the hole.

The green is raised with deep bunkers around it.

When the wind is blowing it can be a considerable iron shot to get there in two and it has cost many a player a dropped stroke early in the rounds.

This can be a crucial little corner. In their own way, four, five and six, and indeed seven, are a bit of a front nine 'Amen Corner' because they are funny, peculiar holes.
