Paul Casey failed to shine on the final day at Augusta, shooting a 74 for a share of sixth place.
The 26-year-old Englishman had begun the day in third and at one point had a putt for a share of the lead.
While his play from tie to green was invariably solid, he fell foul of the notoriously slick Augusta greens.
Dropped shots at the sixth, ninth, 12th and 17th were all a result of wayward putting, but his top-10 finish is enough to earn him a return next year.
Casey immediately had a chance to close the gap at the top when a stunning eight-iron from a fairway bunker gave him a six-foot birdie opportunity at the first.
But he misread that putt and would suffer similar misfortunes at other holes.
