Wardrop is playing the first two rounds with Michael Wright and Peter Ellebye

Manchester's Danny Wardrop insists he can make the cut at his first Open Championship despite slumping to a first-round 75 at Turnberry. The Didsbury professional found himself 10 shots adrift of first round leader Tom Watson - and cites former champion as an example of what needs to be done. "There's always somebody that can go out and do it," Wardrop told BBC Sport. "Mr Watson has shot 65 and that's fantastic. I've just got to dig deep and try to pull one out of the bag." Wardrop knows he has to improve massively on an Open debut that has so far yielded just one birdie - and needs a lot more. "I was really nervous on the first tee," he said. "In fact, the while first hole was a little bit of a blur. It's not what I normally experience. "But I calmed down and played quite nicely and actually enjoyed every minute of it. "I missed a few fairways and, when you do that, you get punished. "I also missed a few putts I should have made and was fighting from there. "But you never know what the weather might do," he added.
