Darren Clarke ended his Scottish Open in disappointing fashion

Darren Clarke fell back the field on the final day of The Scottish Open at Loch Lomond as a round of six-over-par 77 left him on a one under par total.

Graeme McDowell also finished one under thanks to a closing 70 while Rory McIlroy ended level par after a 73.

Damien McGrane was the best Irish player on four under thanks to a 68, with Paul McGinley among those on one under and Shane Lowry back on six over.

Martin Kaymer won the tournament on 15 under, two ahead of the field.

Raphael Jacquelin and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano were joint second on 13 under.

Clarke began the day on seven under but a round which included five bogeys, a double bogey and a birdie saw him drop back.

McDowell carded four birdies and three bogeys in his closing 18 holes while McIlroy had four bogeys and two birdies in a disappointing round.

McGinley posted a 72 and Shane Lowry a 79.

Gareth Maybin, Michael Hoey, Peter Lawrie and Gary Murphy all missed the halfway cut.
