Cristie Kerr took a one-stroke lead after the second round of the women's US Open in Pennsylvania.

The 31-year-old American, who won the tournament two years ago, shot a one-under-par round of 70 to finish on three under.

Kerr was one shot ahead of 22-year-old compatriot Paula Creamer, who shot a 68, while the 74 of overnight leader Na Yeon Choi left her level par.

Laura Davies made the cut along with 14-year-old amateur Alexis Thompson.

The American is the youngest woman to qualify for the US Open and is in contention after a 73 put her at two over and tied for eighth.

World number one Lorena Ochoa was way off the pace as she could only manage a score of 79 for the second round and is at six over for the championship.

Kerr's round included four bogeys and five birdies on the tough Saucon Valley Country Club course.

"It's great to know that I've won one, and I know I can do it on the weekend," said Kerr. "I feel very comfortable.

"Nobody's immune to getting pumped up and having adrenaline, but I feel very comfortable with my mindset and my game plan and what I have to do.

"I know what that feels like, so I have a little advantage there."
