Jonny Caldwell missed out on a place at The Open Championship at Turnberry after failing to progress from Local Final Qualifying at Kilmarnock. The Clandeboye player carded a second round of one-over-par 74 on Tuesday to finish well down the field on two under after firing an opening 70 on Monday. Ronan Rafferty and Royal County Down professional Jerry Scullion failed to qualify from the Gailes Links, Glasgow. David Higgins of Waterville did qualify after ending three under in Glasgow. Higgins added a two-under 69 to his opening round of 70 on Monday to make it into the top four qualifiers at Gailes. European Tour player Caldwell recorded five birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey in his round on Tuesday. Rafferty, a former European number one, registered a 77 after signing for a 72 on Monday. Scullion ended on 16 over after carding two rounds of eight-over 79.
