American Sean O'Hair clung on to claim his third PGA tour title with victory in the Quail Hollow Championship despite bogeying the last two holes.

A three-under-par 69 to finish on 11 under proved enough for the 26-year-old as Lucas Glover dropped a shot on the 17th to slip back to 10 under.

Tiger Woods, two shots off the lead overnight, could only manage an even- par 72 to finish fourth on nine under.

England's Ian Poulter came through to finish joint-fifth on eight under.

After some solid scoring, a loose final two holes seemed to have cost O'Hair dear as Glover found himself level through 16 with his rival back in the clubhouse.

But Glover was also tripped up by the penultimate par three, failing to get up and down in two after missing the green, to hand sole possession of the lead back to his compatriot.

Required to chip in on the last to force a play-off, Glover could not conjure up the spectacular and had to settle for second place.

"It feels so good, especially finishing the way I did. I played so good on the back nine and it's a great feeling," said O'Hair.

Apparently poised for a trademark final-day charge, Woods produced a decidedly ordinary round, taking par on his final 10 holes, and never threatening.

"It was one of those weird weeks. I didn't feel comfortable with my swing today," said Woods.

By contrast Poulter put together a formidable run after starting the day six shots off the lead.

Europe's top scorer in the Ryder Cup last year briefly entered a five-way tie for second place after stringing together five birdies in six holes.

He could not maintain the pace however, and bogeys on the 15th and 16th saw him the slide out of contention as O'Hair and Glover took their duel to the wire.
