Schwartzel's last hole-in-one was in July 1998 when he was aged 13

A hole-in-one by South Africa's Charl Schwartzel helped him to a share of the lead going into Sunday's final round of the Joburg Open in Johannesburg.

Schwartzel picked up seven shots over his first 10 holes, then double-bogeyed the 11th before his tee shot at the 12th dropped short and rolled in.

He shares first place with compatriot Andrew McLardy and halfway leader David Drysdale from Scotland.

Both picked up birdies at the last for rounds of 69 and 71 respectively.

Schwartzel, the world number 68, said: "The first 10 holes, I felt pretty flawless. Nothing could go wrong, I was hitting the ball close, I wasn't making any long putts, I was just hitting it four foot from the hole every time.

"At seven under I was thinking maybe I could make 59 but that came to a quick halt on the very next hole. I made double and then I was sort of almost ready to walk off the golf course right there.

"But then on the next hole I made a hole-in-one and was celebrating. So it was really nice."

Two-time major winner Retief Goosen was faultless in his third round, firing a six-under round of 65 to move into contention with four birdies in six holes between the 8th and the 13th.

Defending champion Richard Sterne had two birdies in his last two holes to move to six under and keep his hopes of winning a third consecutive European Tour title alive.
