McDowell six behind in Shanghai

Graeme McDowell bogeyed his closing hole on Thursday

Graeme McDowell shot a 71 which left him six shots behind leader Henrik Stenson after the opening round of the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai.

McDowell suffered a disappointing finish after bogeying the par-five closing hole.

Darren Clarke hit a level-par 72 which included a double bogey on the eighth.

Peter Lawrie and Damien McGrane lead the Irish challenge after 68s while Open Champion Padraig Harrington is well placed after an opening 69.

Stenson leads a loaded leaderboard with Sergio Garcia, Anthony Kim, Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott one shot behind.
