Westwood will be competing in his sixth Ryder Cup
Lee Westwood's bout of tonsillitis will not prevent him from competing in the Ryder Cup later this month, his agent Chubby Chandler has claimed.
Westwood missed last week's European Open and is also set to sit out the Mercedes-Benz Championship, with the Ryder Cup starting on 19 September.
But Chandler told the Guardian: "Lee is slowly recovering and we are sure it will not affect his chances.
"There is no concern from him or us on that regard."
However, Chandler did admit that his client was "not feeling 100%", prompting the decision to pull out if this week's European Tour event.
And with the Ryder Cup starting next Friday at Valhalla, that could create concerns that Westwood will be going into the biennial event short of recent playing time.
The 35-year-old has won 15½ points from his five Ryder Cup appearances and has been Europe's top-scorer alongside Sergio Garcia at the last two events.
If Westwood was to drop out, Germany's Martin Kaymer, who is the next player in the standings, would be called up.
