Clarke 12 behind Garrido after 69

Darren Clarke won the Asian Open in China last week

Darren Clarke shot a 69 to safely make the cut at the Spanish Open but his three-under-par total leaves him 12 shots behind leader Ignacio Garrido.

Clarke is in a share of 38th place in Seville although that is only four shots off seventh place.

Peter Lawrie shot a 70 for six under while Paul McGinley will make the cut after firing a 68 for two under par but Gary Murphy misses out on one over.

Gareth Maybin is also on his way home after hitting a second successive 74.

Maybin's round included five birdies but seven bogeys ensured that he missed the cut.

The Challenge Tour card holder was playing in only his second full European Tour start.

Garrido added a superb nine-under-par 63 to his opening 66.
