Graeme McDowell bogeyed his final two holes to start the Mallorca Classic with a one-over-par 71 on Thursday.
The Portrush player, who is currently 52nd in the European Order of Merit, carded five bogeys and four birdies in his first round.
Ireland's Gary Murphy shared the lead with Andrew McLardy and Richard Finch on four under when play was abandoned for the day because of thunderstorms.
Dubliner Paul McGinley and Damien McGrane both shot 71.
