Garcia battles back with a string of four pars before birdies on 12 and 13 move him back to nine under par

Harrington continues on his steady way and knocks in an eagle putt on 14 to join Garcia at the top of the leaderboard

However, Harrington visits the Barry Burn on the 18th twice to double-bogey and card a 67 for a seven under finish

Garcia needs a par on the last to win, but slides an eight-foot putt wide to set up a four-hole play-off with Harrington

The first play-off hole sees Garcia make five after finding the greenside bunker, while Harrington sinks a birdie putt

Harrington takes his two-shot lead through 16 and 17 and sinks a four-foot bogey putt on 18 to win The Open

And all that is left is for Harrington to be officially named as "Champion Golfer for the Year" and pick up the Claret Jug
