Classy Goosen makes Masters move
Retief Goosen
Goosen has three top-10 finishes in eight Masters appearances
Retief Goosen carded a two-under-par 70 to vault up the leaderboard in the third round of the 71st Masters.

The 38-year-old South African was in the fifth group out having only just made the weekend cut on eight over.

But an impressive round, the only one under par on Saturday, saw the world number nine climb into contention.

It could have been even better as he bogeyed the last to fall to six over but that got better and better all day and he finished only four off the lead.

Goosen's 70 was two shots better than the next best returns in the third round from Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods.

And it was considerably better than anything the other early starters could muster. The next best rounds from them were the 75s of Augusta native Charles Howell III and 2002 USPGA champion Rich Beem, both on 11 over for the tournament.

Fred Couples, the 1992 champion playing in his 23rd consecutive weekend at a Masters, struggled through Amen Corner on his way to a 78 and a 14-over total.

One behind Couples is the 1979 winner Fuzzy Zoeller, while the 1988 champion Sandy Lyle signed for an 80 to finish on 16 over for 54 holes.

And world number two Adam Scott could only manage a 76 to skid to 12 over.
