455 yards, par four
The fifth is one of the most underrated holes on the course and seldom seen in any depth. I don't think I've ever seen them drive off from it on television.
It was the only hole modified for the 2007 Masters. The tee was moved back and the fairway bunkers were extended towards the green. To carry the two bunkers is now 315 yards.
The right-to-left dogleg was moved further right to increase the angle. This move, along with the new tee position, added 20 yards to the hole.
The green is raised with deep bunkers around it.
When the wind is blowing it can be a considerable iron shot to get there in two and it has cost many a player a dropped stroke early in the rounds.
This can be a crucial little corner. In their own way, four, five and six, and indeed seven, are a bit of a front nine "Amen Corner" because they are funny, peculiar holes.
2010 rank: 1st hardest (stroke ave. 4.313)
All-time rank (1942-2010): 5th (4.27)
