Australia's Robert Allenby and South Korea's Charlie Wi are tied for the halfway lead on five under par at the Honda Classic in Florida.
Allenby shot a two-under-par 68 while overnight leader Wi carded a 70.
Ireland's Padraig Harrington (71) is four off the lead on one under, two ahead of England's Brian Davis (73) and Germany's Bernhard Langer (75).
Ian Poulter (73) is three over par, while defending champion Luke Donald (67) just made the cut on four over.
Allenby opened his round with back-to-back bogeys before pulling himself together and carding five birdies.
"Bogeys at 10 and 11 wasn't the greatest start in the world," said Allenby, who has had four consecutive top-10 finishes.
"But I made a couple of nice birdies on the back nine. I'm definitely an afternoon person. The body was awake but the mind wasn't."
Wi, one stroke ahead of Langer overnight, survived a triple bogey on his second hole and a back-nine wobble to stay on course for his first PGA Tour title.
After a seven at the par four 11th sent Wi crashing down the leaderboard, the 35-year-old recorded birdies on four of his next five holes, including
three straight from the 12th to regain the lead.
He hit a rough patch with bogeys at the third and fifth, but again rebounded in style, recording back-to-back birdies at the sixth and seventh.
"After the triple, I didn't feel like I had to go out there and make birdies," Wi said.
"I just told myself to be patient and just hang in there and see if I can get a couple back and I rolled a few in there."
Americans Will MacKenzie and Steve Stricker are two shots off the pace on three under, while Swedes Daniel Chopra and Mathias Gronberg lead a group of five players at two under.
